Blogger versus WordPress
Welcome to another post on We Can Create Money Online. In the previous post, we discussed the top 5 methods to make money online. And blogging is one of my favorites.
Before you go and start blogging though you get 1 single question in your mind?
Where do I start blogging?
The answer is simple to make a blog with any platform like WordPress, Blogger, or Medium.
And we get more and more confused.
But if you have tried to research and find the best blogging platform for yourself. You will hear two names most of the time: Blogger(aka Blogspot) and WordPress.
Both platforms offer their pros and cons. Let's have a detailed look at those:
Blogger
Blogger is a Google product just like YouTube, Google Drive, and Gmail. Blogger is total focus on accessibility, ease of use, and free price.
Blogger is one of the oldest blogging ways to publish your words on the Web. You can customize most things using HTML coding which makes it even more fun.
Pros of Using Blogger:
1. It's free to use and you can sign up using your Gmail address.
2. Buy a domain for cheap from GoDaddy and add it to your blogger and still run your blog easily with full bloggers customization.
3. Super easy for even beginners who have no prior knowledge.
4. Offers you a ton of widgets for free.
5. Back up your blog easily in settings. No fuss.
6. 100% free to use and maintain.
Cons of Using Blogger:
1. Blogger is amazing for blogging but it comes with severe restrictions to growing your blog. Especially in customization needs, support, etc.
2. Bloggers have only one purpose which is blogging. It's a strength but a serious weakness sometimes too. If you don't want to stick to traditional blogging then blogger could be difficult for you.
3. Yes! You can edit the HTML and CSS in blogger, but only to a certain degree. For a truly dynamic website, you must look for another platform.
WordPress
WordPress is an extremely customization, free-to-use, and easy-to-use platform for blogs of any size, and bloggers of any level of experience.
Most web hosts provide a quick install WordPress for you. So installing and working with WordPress is easy.
Pros of Using WordPress:
1. WordPress provides versatile options of premium paid themes and plugins. Even free themes and plugins are always easily available.
2. High customization is easy with plugins. But you can extend your dynamic website functionality and even beauty using PHP loops and hooks.
3. WordPress blogs can run third-party ads and Google AdSense without a problem. Use affiliate links and post sponsored content to further increase your online income through blogging.
4. WordPress has a very active community of developers who keep the platform updated. After all, 30% of websites on the internet are powered by WordPress.
Cons of Using WordPress:
1. All customization in WordPress come at cost of money. Most free plugins offer restricted use so you have to spend money for full usage.
2. WordPress requires you to have some knowledge of website operation at least. It is friendly to use but it takes time to know all the extended functions.
Final Thoughts
So both Blogger and WordPress have their advantages and disadvantages. Which one you choose depends on your choice. Either way, they are both amazing platforms for Blogging.
